Cabo San Lucas Attractions
Tourist Attractions
El Arco
Family friendly: Yes
At the very tip of Land's End, where the Pacific meets the Sea of Cortez, lies Cabo San Lucas' signature landmark: a natural granite arch formed by centuries of erosion. The Arch has become synonymous with this destination. Boats from the Marina or along the Playa Medano can transport you there for a look.
San Jose Museum
End of the Paseo del Estero
The San Jose Museum houses a small but decent collection of art and artifacts of Baja's indigenous peoples.
Historic Attractions
Iglesia de San Lucas
Calle Cabo San Lucas
The stone Iglesia de San Lucas (Church of San Lucas) was established in 1730 by the Spanish missionary Nicol?s Tamaral. In the archway there is a giant bell commemorating the church's completion in 1746. The church is one of the many buildings in the picturesque part of Cabo that has a strong Mexican authenticity.
Parks and Beaches
Costa Azul
Just outside of San Jose, this beach is popular with surfers and budget travelers. There are a few campsites and dining facilities.
Estero
Blvd. Mijares
Family friendly: Yes
Estero de San Jose, or San Jose estuary, is where the San Jose River flows into the sea. It was recently made a natural preserve and it's a great place for a hike; you may see some of the more than 200 species of birds that live there.
Playa de Amor
Along the rocks of Land's End
Family friendly: Yes
This is the most interesting beach in the Los Cabos area and perhaps one of the most unique anywhere in the world. Part of the beach faces east toward the Sea of Cortez, and the water tends to be calm and su itable for swimming. Another part of the beach faces west, toward the Pacific, where the waves crash against the shore. You can also hop a water taxi from the bay to get there.
Playa de Nuevo Sol and Playa California
These two beaches occupy one long, clean, and beautiful stretch of sand in front of the Los Cabos Gold and Tennis Club. In recent years they have come to be known jointly as the Playa Hotelera because it is the stretch of beach that most of San Jose's resort hotels use. The water can be dangerously rough.
Playa Medano
Family friendly: Yes
This is Cabo's most popular beach for sunbathing and hanging out. It stretches nearly two miles from the Hacienda Beach Resort on the south end, to the Villa del Palmar Cabo on the north. Several resort hotels are on this stretch, so there are plenty of lounge chairs and shade tents, as well as restaurants and bars (many offer happy hours and/or sunset margarita specials). The beach itself is beautiful--kept immaculately clean by the hotels--and it offers amazing views of the rocky point and headlands, especially at sunset.
Playa Palmilla
Family friendly: Yes
Right in front of the Hotel Palmilla, this beach is protected by a rocky point and has calmer waters.
Playa Solmar
Family friendly: Yes
This beach, on the other side of the mountains that separate Cabo Bay from the Pacific Ocean, takes its name from the Solmar Hotel, which is nestled against the beaches' rocks. It's a spacious beach, with nothing just the sand, rocks, and crashing surf. There is a notoriously deadly undertow, however, so if you go in the water, keep your feet on the ground.
