    How do I book a car?
    To search for car rental options and to make reservations, please go to Car Rental section.
    1. If you already have set up flight arrangements, access your itinerary, and then click "Add car rental." Otherwise, go to step 2.
    2. Enter the city where you want to rent a car. If you would like to search for an off-airport rental location, select the "In and around a city" button, and enter the city where you would like to rent a car.
    3. Indicate your pick-up and drop-off dates and times. Select a car rental company from the drop-down list, if you have a preference.
    4. Click "Search."
    If you need a different airport drop-off location, want a specific car class, or special equipment; please click on "more search options."

    You may then click on "verify rate and continue" at a search option of your choice. The following pages will allow you to specify the driver, enter frequent traveler programs, corporate plans and other rate options. Then you may view the car rental details and proceed toward a reservation.

    What do I need to know about car rental pick-up and drop-off times?
    Your car reservation will be held until the date and time you indicated you would pick up the car. Extra charges may be applied if you do not return the car by the designated drop-off date and time. Be sure to cancel the reservation if you are not going to need the car.

    What rental car options can I choose?
    Choose a car class, rental car company, transmission type, and whether you'd like air conditioning. The fewer preferences you choose, the more likely you are to find the best price.

    Why do I get the message "Unable to complete at this time", when making a car reservation?
    This usually means that the car type that you selected is no longer available, however it could be related to the search criteria you entered. Please review the following suggestions:

    Return to the "Search for a Car" page to perform a new search. If the car rental still cannot be priced, try one or more of the following:

    Double-check to be sure you have correctly typed numbers for any car rental plans, frequent flyer plans, coupons, or corporate rental discounts, or remove these numbers entirely.

    On the "Search for a Car" page, remove all special options requests (bicycle rack, infant car seat, etc.)

    On the "Search for a Car" page, select another rental car company or car class.

    Note: Some car rental agencies limit rental duration. If your trip is long, you might want to try reducing the length of your total rental or breaking the length of your rental into segments.

    What do I do if the car rental rates are not defined?
    Rental companies donít always provide us with information on charges you could incur if you keep a rental car an extra hour, day, or week, or if you return the car to a location different than the pick-up location. In these cases, we mark the fee as "not defined." For information regarding these charges, please contact the rental company directly.

    Can I use a Frequent Flyer Plan when renting a car?
    If you want to use a frequent flyer plan that may offer a discount or other benefits, supply the plan information on the "Traveler Profiles" page.

    If you have previously entered frequent flyer numbers, click a previously entered frequent flyer plan in the Plan list.

    If you have never entered frequent flyer numbers before, click a frequent flyer plan in the list, then type a membership number in the "Number" box. Be sure to check the rate you receive on the "Car Details" page.

    If your frequent flyer plan offers mileage for car rentals, please check with your program to ensure you are credited the appropriate miles.

    How do I select car rate options?
    The options offered in this section ensure that you get the type of rental you want. Your options are:
    • Leisure or Non-contracted Rate This option offers you the lowest available rental rate we can find. This is the default selection. Selecting "Leisure Rate" may prevent you from receiving benefits offered by a corporation.
    • Corporate or Contracted Rate Select this option to receive discounted rates negotiated with the car rental company you have selected. In the Corporate plan section; type the corporate ID number in the Number box to get the negotiated rate for your rental.
    • Special or Advertised Rate Select this option if you have information about, or a coupon for, a special advertised rental rate. To get this rate, you must provide the advertised code(s) for the discount. Type the code(s) as given in the advertisement into the appropriate box once you have selected this option.
    If you are a member of an association such as AAA or AARP, you may be entitled to a discount when you supply the association ID number assigned by the rental car company you have chosen. Check with your association for the proper number.

    Why didn't I get the car model shown in the website?
    As noted on our website, special requests such as makes, models, and colors, etc. of rental cars are not guaranteed by the car rental company and are based on availability at the time of pick-up.

    Can I request additional equipment for my rental car?
    You may opt to request the following equipment from the car rental company:
    • Bicycle rack
    • Infant car seat
    • Toddler car seat
    • Left hand control
    • Right hand control
    • Luggage rack
    • Mobile phone
    • Ski rack
    • Snow chains
    • Cassette player
    • Trailer hitch
    • Navigational system
    The special equipment options may not be available on all cars or at all rental locations. Your selections will be sent to the car vendor as a request, thus your selections are not guaranteed. Be sure to confirm your equipment will be available at least 48 hours before you depart. Please note that additional charges may apply for the options you select.

    Can I change or cancel my car reservation?
    Rental car reservations can be canceled or changed at any time. Canceling a reservation will not result in a cancellation penalty. To change or cancel your rental car reservation, go to "My Trips" and open the itinerary that contains the rental car reservation you wish to change or cancel. Click "Cancel this car reservation" and verify the cancellation on the resulting page.

    How do you calculate rental rates?
    Rental rates will be calculated based on the applicable rental rate plan for the rental period. A rate plan period may be a day, week, weekend, or month, as stated on the Car details page. For example, if you rented a car June 1 through June 7, you would be billed at a weekly rate. However, if you rented a car June 1 through June 10, you would be billed at a weekly rate plus applicable daily rate for the two extra days (depending on pick up and return times). The only exception to this rule is when the Car details page states specifically that it is displaying a total price. If a total price is displayed, that is the price you should expect to pay if you pick up and return your car on time.

    Date changes may result in rate changes. In addition, insurance is not included in the quoted price.

    Note: Your car reservation will be held until the date and time you indicated that you would pick up the car. Be sure to cancel the reservation if you are not going to need the car.

    To see details about any of these cars, click "Verify rate and continue," next to the fare that interests you.

    Can I designate the pick-up and drop-off locations of my rental car?
    Yes, you can designate where you want to pick up and drop off your rental car. You can search for a rental car near a city, an airport, or a U.S. address.

    If you wish to return your car to a location other than the one where you picked it up, type the city name, airport name, or airport code (for example, JFK) in the "Drop-off" location box.

    To reserve a one-way rental, click on the one-way car rental link.

    Note: Additional charges may apply if you decide to return your car to a different location. For more information, see Rules and restrictions on the Car details page of the car you select.

    What discount coupons (group, corporate, or association) can I use?
    You may want to use a discount plan offered by a corporation (for example, your employer) or an association or group (for example, AAA or AARP). You will have an opportunity to provide this information when you are going through the car reservation process.

    What do I need to know about reviewing available rental cars?
    If you chose "No preference" in the Rental car company box, we will display our preferred companies first. If none of these cars meets your needs, scroll to the bottom of the page and click "Show more vendors," or click "Cancel" and go to home page to perform a new search.

    Where can I get more information on additional taxes and fees for rental cars?
    To get information about any additional taxes and fees that may apply, click Taxes and fees in the Review rental rates and dates section of the Car details page. Taxes and fees are applied by the rental car company and vary depending on a number of factors, including state and local law.

    What do I need to know about car rental plans?
    If you want to use a car rental plan that may offer a discount or other benefits, supply the plan membership number in the "Number" box. Car rental plans sometimes entitle travelers to discounted rates. Check the "Car Details" page carefully to see if your rate has changed.

    How do I use a corporate plan in renting a car?
    If you want to use a discount plan offered by a corporation (for example, your employer) or an association (for example, American Automobile Association [AAA] or the American Association of Retired Persons [AARP]), type the ID number assigned by the rental car company to your corporation or association in the "Number" box. Using this option may provide you with a rate specially negotiated for the discount plan participants.

    If you use this option, you may be entitled to discounted rates. Check the "Car Details" page carefully to see if your rate has changed.

    When you elect to use a corporate plan, you are not required to select "Corporate or Contracted Rate" as your Car rate option further down on the page.

    What kinds of cars can I rent on VacationOnline?
    VacationOnline.com offers a wide range of car classes to choose from. These include:

    What kind of insurance should I get for my rental car?
    There are several types of insurance available for purchase. Rates may vary from state-to-state and per vendor, please check with the car rental company to confirm. We suggest that you check with your insurance provider to see if you are already covered for car rentals, before purchasing additional insurance.

    Can I use a coupon when renting a car?
    Coupons can only be redeemed during the purchase of a flight, hotel or vacation package and cannot be used for rental car reservations.
